Al-Alimi: The Houthis Are Squandering De-Escalation Opportunities and Serving Iran’s Agenda

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said on Saturday that the Houthi group “insists every time an opportunity for de-escalation arises on gambling with the interests of the Yemeni people, and pushing the country into consecutive crises in service of the Iranian regime’s agendas.”
Al-Alimi added, in a post on his “Facebook” account, that the group ignores that “the will of the Yemenis and their aspirations for the state, dignity, security, and stability are not a bargaining chip, and will never be.”
He affirmed that the Yemeni government is moving forward in working closely with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy and its partners in the international community towards “decisive deterrence of the threat, protection of waterways, and combating terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime,” considering that this represents a “national responsibility and an absolute commitment to the security of Yemen, the region, and global peace.”
Al-Alimi stressed that “the Houthi militias have no choice but to respond to the will of the Yemeni people,” pointing out that their continuation in the path of escalation “will be nothing but a waste of time and a depletion of what remains of the country’s capabilities.”
He explained that this approach “will not change the conviction of the Yemenis and their adherence to the goal of ending the coup and extending state authority over the entire national territory,” in his words.
