Armed Men Storm Al-Mamdara Police Station in Aden; Authorities Launch Investigation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
An armed attack targeted the Al-Mamdara Police Station in the district of Sheikh Othman in Yemen’s temporary capital, Aden, on Saturday, prompting security authorities to move quickly to contain the situation and open an investigation into the incident.
According to local sources, an armed group believed to be led by a former security official stormed the police station during daylight hours and assaulted several officers. Security reinforcements later arrived at the scene, bringing the situation under control and preventing further escalation.
The sources said the attackers attempted to gain access to the station’s archives and investigative files, raising concerns about the safety of documents related to several ongoing cases. In response, security agencies tightened protective measures around the facility.
Meanwhile, Aden Security Administration issued a statement confirming that, under the directives of Security Director Major General Muttahar Al-Shaibi, legal measures would be taken against those involved in the assault on the acting director of Al-Mamdara Police Station while he was carrying out his official duties.
The administration stressed that any attack on security personnel while performing their duties constitutes a violation of the law and would not go unpunished. It added that the legal affairs department, oversight bodies, and police units had been tasked with following up on the case, gathering evidence and testimonies, determining responsibility, and urgently submitting investigation results for legal action.
The statement noted that the incident is being closely monitored by Aden’s security leadership and that all procedures are being carried out within the framework of the law, ensuring the rights of all parties involved. It also emphasized that protecting security personnel is an institutional obligation and that any assaults against them would be met with firm legal measures.
Authorities said the final results of the investigation will be announced once completed, and anyone found responsible will be held accountable in accordance with the law, reinforcing state authority and the rule of law.
The incident comes about a week after local authorities in Aden suspended Lieutenant Colonel Jalal Al-Subaihi, the director of Al-Mamdara Police Station, in connection with an investigation into the alleged rape of a child. Officials said the suspension was intended to ensure the integrity of the investigation and prevent any interference with the judicial process.
At the time, authorities instructed security agencies and the public prosecution to detain all suspects and anyone linked to the case, while pursuing any individuals found to have concealed information or failed to act. The goal, they said, was to fully uncover the circumstances of the case and hold those responsible accountable.
The Public Prosecution also issued a compulsory arrest warrant for one suspect after a video allegedly documenting the sexual assault of a child circulated publicly. Authorities ordered the suspect’s name to be circulated at all border crossings and points of entry to prevent him from leaving the country and to facilitate his arrest wherever he might be found.
