Yemeni Human Rights Advocate: Arrest of Activist “Al-Attar” in Aden Is a Clear Violation of Constitutional Guarantees

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni lawyer and human rights activist Huda Al-Sarari stated that the arrest of activist Amr Al-Attar in the interim capital, Aden, constitutes a “clear violation” of constitutional and procedural guarantees, in the absence of any declared charges or judicial orders justifying his detention.
Al-Sarari explained in a post monitored by Yemen Monitor that the continued concealment of Al-Attar’s place of detention and denying him contact with his family or lawyer represents a “serious breach” of defense rights, and is classified as arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance under both international and local legal standards.
The human rights activist stressed that the proper legal course, if there are any accusations, requires immediate referral: presenting the detainee to the competent public prosecution without delay.
She also emphasized the necessity of allowing him to contact his family to inform them of his whereabouts and health condition, in addition to guaranteeing his fundamental right to appoint a lawyer and defend himself.
Al-Sarari considered that the continued detention of Al-Attar outside the framework of the law “requires accountability” for the parties involved in the process. She also called for the immediate and transparent disclosure of his place of detention and his unconditional release unless a legal charge against him is proven through the judiciary.
