Yemeni Islah Party Launches Campaign To Highlight Muhammad Qahtan’s Case, His Family’s Suffering, And Houthi Responsibility For His Safety

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Islah Party) has launched an extensive media campaign marking 11 years since the kidnapping of Muhammad Qahtan, a member of its supreme authority and a prominent national leader. Qahtan remains forcibly disappeared in Houthi prisons since April 2015, in one of the most prominent cases of enforced disappearance in Yemen.

In a press release, the party stated that the kidnapping of Qahtan—one of the most prominent symbols of national action and defense of the state—represents a vivid picture of the heavy price Islah pays in confronting the Houthi project based on exclusion and violence. It pointed to the continuous suffering the militia imposes on his family and colleagues without any legal justification or announced charges.

The statement added that throughout the years of forced absence, Qahtan has remained present in the national consciousness as a symbol of peaceful struggle, a voice supporting the restoration of the state, and an inspiration to Yemenis in the battle for freedom and dignity, alongside thousands of others kidnapped and forcibly disappeared in the militia’s prisons.

The Media and Culture Department of the General Secretariat of the Yemeni Islah Party called on all journalists, activists, and interested parties to participate in the campaign starting tomorrow evening, Sunday, at 8:00 PM. The campaign aims to highlight the case of leader Muhammad Qahtan, expose his family’s suffering, remind of the Houthi group’s responsibility for his safety, and demand his immediate release in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
