First Yemeni Female Ambassador to Washington Takes Constitutional Oath

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Ambassador Jamila Ali Raja took the constitutional oath on Saturday as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the United States of America, during an official ceremony held at the Yemeni Embassy in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in front of the Head of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi.
Following the oath-taking, President Al-Alimi met with Ambassador Raja, congratulating her on gaining confidence and being appointed to this position as the first Yemeni woman to assume the role of Yemen’s ambassador to Washington — a precedent in the history of bilateral relations.
The Head of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his confidence in Ambassador Raja’s ability to utilize her political and intellectual experience to enhance Yemen’s presence on the international stage, contribute to presenting the image of the Yemeni state as a deeply rooted entity that interacts positively with its regional and international environment, while also countering the misleading narratives promoted by the Houthi group.
Al-Alimi emphasized the important role of diplomatic missions in representing Yemen and strengthening its bilateral relations, affirming that what the country is witnessing is not a traditional political conflict, but rather an armed insurgency and a coup against national consensus, and a direct threat to the state project.
He also called for building upon the US executive decision classifying the Houthi militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and working to intensify international pressure on it, as it is among the most dangerous violent groups threatening security and stability.
The Head of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the importance of strengthening partnership with the international community, especially the US, and restoring donor confidence, to support economic recovery programs, build effective partnerships for restoring state institutions, and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Al-Alimi renewed his praise for the efforts to reform Yemeni diplomatic work, emphasizing the need to double its role in mobilizing international support and reinforcing a unified international position alongside Yemen, serving the people’s aspirations to restore their institutions and end the coup.
He also highlighted the importance of Yemeni embassies engaging with current changes flexibly and efficiently, promoting the national state project, and shedding light on the grave violations committed by the Houthi militia as an ongoing threat to international peace and security.
Ambassador Jamila Ali Raja is the first Yemeni woman to hold the position of ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the United States of America, a historic precedent that strengthens the role of women in the diplomatic corps.
