Wall Street Journal: Houthi Leaders Go into Hiding and Evacuate Their Headquarters in Anticipation of Israeli Retaliation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom / Exclusive:

The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing informed sources, that the Houthi movement is experiencing an unprecedented state of security alert. Senior officials have left their main offices in the capital, Sana’a, and other areas under their control, relocating to alternative, more fortified positions, including rugged mountainous areas.

According to the sources, these precautionary movements began simultaneously with the start of Houthi attacks on Israel and their direct engagement in the confrontation to show support. Since the group began carrying out missile and drone strikes against Israel starting last Saturday, fears have grown that Tel Aviv might carry out assassination operations or focused airstrikes targeting the group’s leadership hierarchy.

Reports indicated that Houthi leaders have imposed strict restrictions on their phone communications, shifting their activity to alternative communication channels less vulnerable to intelligence tracking. These steps come in response to security assessments suggesting that Israel might resort to repeating previous targeting scenarios based on “urgent intelligence opportunities.”

Official government buildings in Sana’a have witnessed a near-complete evacuation of leadership cadres, a scene reflecting the seriousness of Israeli occupation threats, especially after previous operations proved the occupation’s ability to reach the group’s leaders deep inside Yemen, as happened in past airstrikes targeting vital installations and high-ranking figures.
