GCC and Yemen Discuss Cooperation and Joint Coordination

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, held a phone call with the Yemeni Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaya al-Zindani. The two sides discussed the latest developments in Yemen and prospects for cooperation and joint coordination.
According to a statement issued by the GCC Secretariat, the call addressed efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability, supporting peace and development paths, and reviewing the bilateral relationship between the GCC and Yemen and ways to strengthen it.
Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the Council’s firm position supporting everything that contributes to achieving stability in Yemen. He also emphasized continued support for all humanitarian and relief initiatives to alleviate the suffering of citizens, in coordination with regional and international partners.
This call comes days after a republican decree was issued by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, on February 6, forming the new government headed by al-Zindani, who also retained his position as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Al-Zindani chaired the first cabinet meeting on February 19 in the interim capital, Aden, attended by most members of the 35-minister government. This follows the crisis witnessed in the governorates of Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah after they were stormed by Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces.
