UN Official Arrives in Mukalla, Meets Al-Khanbashi and Leadership of the Second Military Region

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramawt, Dr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, on Wednesday discussed in Mukalla with the Chief Security and Safety Adviser at the United Nations Office in Yemen, Mr. George Touras, ways to enhance mechanisms of joint coordination and support UN activities.
The meeting addressed means of strengthening joint security cooperation to ensure the safety and protection of UN staff and international organizations operating in the governorate.
Dr. Al-Khanbashi affirmed the reorganization of security procedures across the governorate and their subjection to a unified operations room, the unification of military and security efforts under the umbrella of the governorate’s Security Committee to enhance stability, and the provision of all necessary facilitation to secure the movements of international teams to ensure the continuity of their humanitarian and development projects.
In a related context, the UN official also met in Mukalla with the Chief of Staff of the Second Military Region, Brigadier General Salem Basloom, at the region’s headquarters. The meeting reviewed mechanisms for field coordination within the areas of deployment of the region’s brigades and units, as well as the provision of the necessary logistical facilities to enable UN missions to carry out their tasks to the fullest extent.
For his part, Mr. George Touras praised the level of security and stability enjoyed by the coastal areas of Hadramawt, thanks to the efforts of the local authority and the Second Military Region.
The UN official revealed that the United Nations is moving toward expanding the scope of its activities in the liberated areas to include more effective relief and development projects, while working to organize special flights for UN staff through the governorate’s airports and to avoid the obstacles facing humanitarian work in areas under the control of the Houthi militias.
