Taiz Police Receive Wanted Fugitive Ghazwan al-Mikhlafi via Interpol

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Taiz Governorate Police announced on Monday that they have taken custody of the wanted fugitive, Ghazwan al-Mikhlafi, through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
The Security Media Center explained that Taiz police have placed the suspect in detention to complete the necessary legal procedures ahead of his referral to the specialized authorities.
The center noted that Ghazwan al-Mikhlafi had previously fled to areas under the control of the Houthi group, appearing in their media outlets to attack the Legitimacy (internationally recognized government) and Taiz police. He subsequently left Yemen and remained abroad until his recent handover via Interpol.
Taiz police had previously leveled charges against him for leading armed groups responsible for spreading chaos in the city, which has witnessed intermittent clashes for years.
In recent years, Ghazwan al-Mikhlafi’s name emerged as a leader of armed groups engaged in what is described as “thuggery” in Taiz. He has been accused of responsibility for repeated clashes between resistance factions and National Army forces loyal to the Yemeni government.
