New Prime Minister Directs Immediate Disbursement of Overdue Salaries for State Sectors

The newly appointed Prime Minister, Dr. Shayea Mohsen al-Zindani, has directed the Central Bank of Yemen and the Ministry of Finance to accelerate the procedures for paying overdue salaries to state employees in both the civil and military sectors, as well as retirees, families of martyrs, and the wounded. This urgent move is based on new financial support provided by Saudi Arabia totaling $90 million.
The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of moving according to a clear and rapid timetable, with a high level of responsibility, to begin the disbursement process without delay.
During a meeting that included the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb, and the Deputy Minister of Finance in the caretaker government, Hani Wahhab, discussions focused on financial, monetary, and economic developments. They also reviewed mechanisms for utilizing external support to serve urgent priorities—chief among them salaries, currency stability, and improving living conditions.
The Prime Minister listened to a detailed briefing on the current financial and economic situation, existing challenges, and opportunities to enhance financial discipline and improve the efficiency of managing public resources under the exceptional circumstances the country is facing. The meeting also touched on strengthening coordination and integration between fiscal and monetary policies.
Dr. al-Zindani praised the significant brotherly support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming that this support embodies a steadfast historical position in assisting Yemen and its people and plays a pivotal role in protecting financial and monetary stability.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government’s commitment—under the directives of His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, Head of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Council members—to fulfill its national responsibilities and place the suffering of citizens at the forefront of its priorities.
