Al-Arada Says Actions Outside National Consensus Serve the Houthis
Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, Sultan al-Arada, affirmed that actions taken outside the national consensus give the Iran-backed Houthi militia an opportunity to exploit the situation, strengthen its influence, and undermine national and UN efforts across all tracks.
During a virtual meeting with the ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Yemen, Abda Sharif, and France, Catherine Corm-Kamon, Al-Arada discussed the latest developments on the national scene.
He noted that the current situation requires intensified international efforts to support the political leadership—represented by President Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the government—in a way that protects social cohesion and prevents any steps that could threaten internal unity or obstruct efforts to restore the state and its institutions.
The meeting reviewed current field developments, the challenges facing the country on various fronts, and the grave implications of recent events for internal, regional, and international stability.
Al-Arada stressed that the threat posed by the Houthi militia is no longer confined to Yemen, but has become a direct danger to global economic and commercial interests, serving the agenda of the Iranian regime and deepening instability in the region. He urged the international community to adopt a firmer and more effective stance and to stand with the Yemeni people in restoring their state.
He reiterated that any internal or external political process must fully adhere to the three foundational references agreed upon locally, regionally, and internationally: the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council resolutions, chiefly Resolution 2216, considering them the basis for achieving a just and sustainable solution that preserves Yemen’s stability and status.
For their part, Sharif and Corm-Kamon affirmed their countries’ continued support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and their backing of efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in Yemen in a way that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
