Al-Alimi: What Happened in the Eastern Provinces Is a Dangerous Escalation Imposing a Parallel Reality by Force

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
Head of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, said that recent developments in the eastern provinces constitute a “dangerous unilateral escalation” aimed at imposing a parallel reality by force—one that undermines the state’s legal standing and harms the public interest.
During his meeting in Riyadh on Sunday with the Ambassadors of France, Catherine Corm Kammoun; the United Kingdom, Abda Sharif; and the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Jonathan Peccia, Al-Alimi warned that the escalation creates an alternative reality outside the framework of national references, including the Presidential Transfer Declaration and the Riyadh Agreement.
The President expressed his deep appreciation for the three countries’ support for the Yemeni people, their legitimate leadership, the Presidential Council, and the government—particularly their backing of economic reforms and the state’s legal and institutional standing.
Al-Alimi also underscored the importance of withdrawing any forces brought in from outside the eastern provinces—in reference to the Southern Transitional Council’s military units—and returning them to their barracks, while enabling local authorities to fully carry out their duties in maintaining security and stability in accordance with the law.
The meeting reviewed ongoing efforts to contain the unilateral escalation in the eastern provinces, including mediation initiatives led by Saudi Arabia aimed at reaching a de-escalation agreement in Hadramawt. Al-Alimi affirmed the government’s full support for these efforts in coordination with local authorities.
The PLC chairman said the developments in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra pose a direct challenge to de-escalation efforts and threaten the progress achieved in economic reforms and currency stability.
The meeting also discussed the serious human rights violations that accompanied the unilateral deployments in the valley and desert districts of Hadramawt. Al-Alimi said the state is working to document those abuses and ensure the protection of civilians, describing these principles as fundamental and non-negotiable.
For their part, the ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom, and the United States reaffirmed their full commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, Yemen’s unity and stability, and the integrity of its territory.
They also emphasized the importance of maintaining cohesion within the Presidential Leadership Council and fulfilling the government’s obligations to regional and international partners to ensure the continuation of support at all levels.
