Report Documents Grave Violations Against 5,700 Children in Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The National Committee for Investigating Alleged Human Rights Violations in Yemen announced, coinciding with World Children’s Day, that it has recorded 5,700 cases of severe violations affecting children across various Yemeni governorates.

Statistics showed that direct attacks on civilians were the most devastating, with 3,816 children killed or wounded, in a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians.

The Committee also documented 1,368 cases of child recruitment, involving the use of children in combat operations—one of the grave violations prohibited under international law and national legislation.

Additionally, the Committee recorded 708 child victims, either killed or injured, due to landmine and explosive device detonations, as well as 125 extrajudicial killings.

Regarding economic and social rights, 240 cases of deprivation and discrimination in the right to education were documented, highlighting the extensive impact of the conflict on children’s lives and futures.

The National Committee stressed that these statistics reflect the severity of the ongoing violations against children, renewing its call on all parties to the conflict to strictly comply with international humanitarian law and human rights principles, and to halt all violations against children. It also emphasized its continued monitoring and documentation efforts to ensure accountability and justice for victims.
