Power Crisis Looms in Aden After Fuel Trucks Detained in Abyan

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Hassan area in Abyan province witnessed field tensions late Tuesday evening after more than 150 oil transport trucks and tankers carrying crude oil were detained by a group of soldiers protesting the delay in receiving their salaries.
Local sources indicated that the trucks stopped in the area have remained detained since the early hours of yesterday evening, amid intensive efforts by security authorities and the local administration to contain the crisis and reopen their passage route towards the temporary capital, Aden.
This detention comes at a time when residents of Aden are suffering from a severe electricity crisis following the shutdown of the Al-Mansoura power plant due to depleted diesel supplies, while electricity provision is limited to some generators with limited capacities.
Sources warned that the continued detention of the oil trucks would increase power outage hours and deepen the suffering of citizens, especially with rising temperatures and humidity that amplify the need for electricity services.
Activists on social media platforms expressed their urgent demands for the government to disburse the soldiers’ salaries and ensure the unimpeded passage of fuel trucks to avoid a further collapse of basic services in the capital, Aden.
