Houthis Storm UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Armed individuals from the Houthi group stormed the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in the capital, Sana’a, this morning, Tuesday.

Human rights sources reported that Houthi militants broke into the UN Office for Project Services, located in the Hadda district in central Sana’a, confiscated electronic devices, and detained three of the office’s staff before releasing them later.

The UN Office for Project Services is responsible for implementing various projects in Yemen, including projects for operating hospitals, providing them with equipment and electric generators, in addition to supporting emergency departments, and multiple vital service and construction projects.

Last Sunday, the Houthi group stormed the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and confiscated electronic devices and the database for the beneficiaries of the Commission’s projects.

The Houthi group has been carrying out a campaign of arrests and raids on UN offices in areas under its control since last August. The number of organization employees held in Houthi prisons reached 59 employees, according to the Special Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General yesterday.
