Severe Water Crisis Threatens Lives of Over 120,000 People in Kushar, Hajjah

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The district of Kushar in Hajjah governorate, northwestern Yemen, is experiencing tragic conditions due to water scarcity. More than 120,000 people are suffering from a lack of access to the most basic necessities of life, amid silence from official authorities and the investors of the coup group.
In heart-wrenching scenes, children sleep under moonlight, awaiting a drop of water to quench their thirst, while the women and residents of Kushar stand in long queues to obtain small quantities that fail to meet their needs. This exacerbates their suffering and threatens their daily lives.
Activists stated that the official authorities in Hajjah governorate are currently focusing their efforts on costly secondary road projects instead of addressing the severe humanitarian crisis plaguing the people of Kushar.
They added that this disparity in the distribution of attention and resources falls within the framework of the discrimination and racism practiced by the Houthi militias against the people of the Hajour tribes.
Activists and civil society organizations have called for urgent action to provide sustainable water and end the suffering of the population, who have shown long patience without being fairly treated by the slogans or false sympathy from groups that receive billions in support and spend it far from the needs of the citizens.
Local sources confirmed the continuation of a widespread popular campaign demanding the right to water and exposing government neglect, amid renewed pleas on social media platforms. This is an attempt to make the voices of the forgotten districts heard by living consciences and to end the tragedy of thirst for children, women, and families who face a slow death daily.
The issue of water shortage in Kushar remains central to questions about the priorities of the de facto authority and the calls of humanity that have found no listening ears, paving the way for further political and humanitarian deterioration amidst the ongoing conflict and struggles over power and resources.
