Bakers in Taiz Go on Comprehensive Strike Protesting New Bread Price

Yemen Monitor/Taiz/Exclusive:

Bakeries and ovens in the city of Taiz closed their doors today, Sunday, in protest against a local authority decision that imposes the sale of bread by weight at a fixed price of 1,200 Yemeni Rials per kilogram.

Bakery owners expressed their absolute rejection of the new regulation, asserting that it does not align with the reality of rising production costs and raw material prices. They demanded that the imposed price be reconsidered to ensure the sustainability of their operations.

On the other hand, citizens suffered from a severe shortage of bread since the early morning hours following the closure of most bakeries, leading to an unprecedented living crisis in the city.
