Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate Condemns Summoning of Three Reporters in Hadhramaut

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate (YJS) branch in Hadhramaut, Shabwah, and Al Mahra has condemned the summoning of three reporters in the city of Seiyun by security authorities, deeming it a flagrant violation of press freedom and journalists’ right to access information.

The summons targeted journalists Abdullah Mu’men, Haddad Musaeid, and Abdulmajeed Bakhurisa, who are correspondents for the Yemen Shabab, Belqees, and Al Mahriah channels. The action came in response to television reports they filed regarding a partial strike carried out by medical and health unions on September 14, 2025.

The YJS branch asserted in a statement that the journalists performed their professional duty with high professionalism by covering a public union event and ensured that they presented various viewpoints. This included attempts to obtain the position of the Seiyun General Hospital Authority, which refused to issue any official statement despite repeated efforts by the journalists.

The Syndicate considered these measures to be an unjustified restriction on journalistic work, contradicting the principles of freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the constitution and law.

The statement warned against the escalation of harassment against journalists in Hadhramaut, urging local and security authorities to halt any arbitrary procedures and guarantee a safe environment for journalists to perform their professional mission freely and independently.

The Syndicate also renewed its call for governmental bodies to cooperate with media outlets and enable them to fulfill their role in serving the community.
