Pakistan Condemns Houthi Threats to Saudi Arabia and Red Sea Navigation, Hints at Right to Defend Its Interests

Pakistan, on Wednesday, condemned the continuous threats issued by the Houthi group against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commercial navigation in the Red Sea, considering them a threat to regional security, freedom of navigation, and global trade.
Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said in a statement that threats directed at commercial vessels and trade with Saudi Arabia are “unacceptable” and represent a violation of the principles of international law.
He added that Islamabad is particularly concerned about reports regarding threats targeting ships engaged in legitimate trade with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Andrabi emphasized that any hostile act targeting Pakistani-flagged vessels or his country’s maritime interests will be considered a “serious threat” to Pakistan’s national security and sovereignty.
He pointed out that Pakistan, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, reserves the right to take all necessary measures—including the legitimate use of force—in self-defense to protect its maritime assets and national interests.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed his country’s deep concern over what he described as attempts to drag the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia into the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, reaffirming Islamabad’s full support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity.
Pakistan called on all parties to respect international law and ensure the security and safety of international maritime navigation, while reiterating its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation in the region.
