Israel Announces Downing of Drone Launched from Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Hebrew media outlets reported that the Israeli army intercepted a drone launched from Yemeni territory toward Israel. They confirmed it had been under surveillance since it took flight and was shot down before entering Israeli airspace, without air raid sirens being triggered.

According to the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the interception took place less than an hour after the drone was detected. This action is part of what the military describes as its policy toward any hostile object approaching its airspace.

A military spokesperson clarified that the drone was shot down outside the borders and there was no need to activate warnings for residents.

Earlier, the Houthi group in Yemen announced that it had launched a ballistic missile at an oil tanker it claimed was owned by an Israeli company and was sailing under a Liberian flag in the northern Red Sea. The group stated the operation was “in support of Gaza.”

For its part, Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping confirmed that the tanker SCARLET RAY, which it manages, was not damaged and that all crew members were safe. The company noted that the vessel continued its journey as normal.

Reports from maritime security companies and British authorities also indicated that the tanker reported an explosion near it and an unknown object falling into the sea, but it remained under control and its operations were not affected.

The maritime security firm AMBREY explained that the vessel falls within the Houthis’ list of targets due to its connection with an Israeli company.
