Hadramout…General Civil Disobedience Looms Over Mukalla

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Activities related to general civil disobedience continue in Mukalla. The early hours of this Tuesday morning saw the closure of the Ministry of Education office and the Electricity Corporation.
This protest movement coincides with escalating public anger over deteriorating services, primarily continuous power outages, in addition to the authorities’ disregard for legitimate citizen demands.
Protesters affirmed their movement is peaceful and enjoys widespread popular participation. They indicated they will not back down until a set of fundamental demands are met, foremost among them the dismissal of Governor Mabkhout bin Madhi and the accountability of those involved in corruption and administrative failures. They also demand the provision of essential services to citizens, especially electricity, along with a call to halt oil exports until Hadramout’s legitimate rights are fulfilled.
This escalatory step resulted in the closure of all government facilities this morning, sending a strong and clear message that Hadramout will not remain silent in the face of deteriorating conditions and the disregard for its people’s demands.
Protesters had previously declared their determination to continue peaceful escalation until their demands are met, emphasizing the peaceful nature and broad popular support of their movement.
This protest comes in the context of increasing public anger over the decline in service conditions and officials’ neglect of citizen demands.
