At least three Houthi fighters were killed and another was wounded in an ambush carried out by tribal gunmen in the Al-Yatamah market area in northern Al-Jawf Governorate (northeastern Yemen). The incident marks the fourth confrontation within a week between Houthi forces and tribal fighters in the governorate.
Local sources said tribal gunmen launched a sudden attack on a Houthi security patrol in Al-Yatamah market, killing or wounding all four personnel who were aboard the vehicle.
On Sunday evening, clashes also erupted between tribal gunmen and Houthi fighters following the killing of civilian Abdullah Masoud Zaba’ Al-Wahasi and the injury of another person at a Houthi checkpoint in the Salbah area, near Qarn Bin Shaman, west of Al-Yatamah.
The latest incident follows fighting on Saturday and Thursday in the Al-Marashi and Khab wa Al-Sha’af districts, where at least six Houthi fighters were reportedly killed and ten others wounded. The clashes also resulted in the burning of military vehicles. Five tribal fighters were also killed, including three members of the Al Ja’id tribe and two from the Jazilan tribe.
Al-Jawf has witnessed growing tensions between local tribes and the Houthis amid the continued sit-in known as “Matarah Al-Karama” (Camp of Dignity) east of Al-Rayyan, in areas controlled by the internationally recognized Yemeni government. The protesters are demanding that the Houthis release “Lahiqat Dahm,” in what has become known as the case involving Sheikh Hamad bin Fadgham and a woman identified as Mira Saddam Hussein, who sought refuge with him.
