Yemeni Presidential Council Member Al-Subaihi Discusses Escalating Houthi Threats to International Navigation with UN Military Delegation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, met today, Monday, at Maashiq Palace in the temporary capital, Aden, with a UN delegation led by Anthony Hayward, the Military Advisor to the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen.
The meeting—which included Snezana Vuksa-Kofman, Head of the Security Arrangements Section, and Brett Scott, Director of the Envoy’s Office in Aden—discussed coordination efforts to support peace building and enhance security and stability in Yemen and the region.
During the meeting, Al-Subaihi emphasized that Yemen’s security is a fundamental pillar for regional security, pointing out that regional tensions, particularly the American-Iranian confrontations, have cast a shadow over the Yemeni arena and threatened the security of international navigation and vital maritime lanes.
Al-Subaihi called on the international community to pressure the Iranian regime to stop supporting armed groups and avoid manufacturing crises, noting that the Houthi group does not believe in peace and seeks to impose its project by force and control the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The Presidential Leadership Council member stressed the necessity of supporting Yemeni state institutions and strengthening their military capabilities to counter terrorism and secure maritime lanes, reiterating the legitimacy’s adherence to the three references (the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216).
He also pointed out the importance of addressing humanitarian and economic aspects in parallel with the political and military tracks to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis.
For its part, the UN delegation expressed its appreciation for the cooperation of the Presidential Leadership Council, confirming that the visit aims to listen to official perspectives regarding political and military developments to support the path of peace in Yemen.
