Yemeni President: The International Community Must Move from Crisis Management to Ending the Threat
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The head of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, warned of the dangers of the Iranian regime’s investment in the Houthi group and the transformation of Yemen into a platform threatening international navigation and global trade supply chains.
During his meeting on Sunday in Riyadh with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Garm Kamon, he stressed the importance of keeping this dimension present in the international community’s approach to the Yemeni situation.
Al-Alimi affirmed the necessity for the international community to move from crisis management to ending the threat, by tightening sanctions on the financing and arming networks of the Houthi militias, supporting ongoing government efforts to build a model in the liberated governorates, and extending its control over the entire national territory.
Al-Alimi praised the French position in the recent briefing, including holding the Houthis responsible for any threat to waterways, as well as condemning their practices and human rights violations, foremost among them the arbitrary detention of relief and humanitarian organization staff.
The meeting touched on national and regional developments, distinguished bilateral relations between Yemen and France, and support for vital humanitarian and service sectors, reflecting France’s strong commitment to strengthening the presence of the government and its legitimate institutions.
The meeting also addressed economic, military, and security reforms, calling for the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, supporting the state, and disarming the militia according to Resolution 2216.
