Maritime Authority Announces Security Incident Involving A Vessel Off The Coast Of Hudaidah

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced today that a security incident occurred in Yemeni territorial waters, southwest of the city of Hudaidah (western Yemen).

The authority explained in its report that a boat carrying armed individuals approached a commercial vessel 54 nautical miles away in the Red Sea, where the gunmen demanded the crew stop and attempted to board the ship.

The report indicated that the ship’s captain managed to repel the attempt by firing a “warning flare,” forcing the boat to retreat and move away.

The authority confirmed the safety of the vessel and its crew with no injuries recorded, noting that this incident comes amid escalating security tensions threatening international navigation in the region.
