Tareq Saleh Directs Formation of Investigation Committee After Casualties in Al-Waziya, Taiz
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Tareq Saleh, has directed the formation of an independent investigation committee to look into the circumstances of the events that took place in the Al-Waziya District of Taiz Governorate, which resulted in casualties during clashes between forces led by Saleh and armed elements from the district’s residents.
This came during phone calls he made with the district’s Director General, Sheikh Ali Ahmed Saif Al-Dharafi, and the commander of the Al-Barh Axis, Major General Hassan Labouza, according to what was published by the “December 2” news agency, the official mouthpiece of the National Resistance.
Tareq Saleh stressed the need for the committee to submit its report with full transparency and integrity to determine responsibilities, affirming that protecting civilians and preserving their blood is the highest duty of security personnel and armed forces, and that he will not allow any violations affecting citizens’ rights or disturbing public peace under any pretext.
The Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council emphasized the need to exercise maximum caution and care while carrying out security tasks, to ensure the safety of civilians and not expose innocent people to any risks.
Yesterday, Sunday, local sources told “Yemen Monitor” that the National Resistance forces led by Tareq Saleh launched an arrest campaign and set up new military checkpoints, following an armed attack that killed one soldier and injured three others.
According to the sources, armed men attacked the “Al-Mansiyya” checkpoint located in the Al-Hadara area of Al-Waziya, using medium weapons and hand grenades. The attack resulted in the death of one soldier and the injury of three others with serious wounds.
Al-Waziya has been witnessing ongoing tensions for a week between the residents of the area and Tareq Saleh’s forces, who accuse “Ahmed Haider Al-Mashouli” of leading an armed gang, and are carrying out raid campaigns to search for him and arrest anyone connected to him.
