Yemeni Interior Minister: The Current Phase Is an Opportunity to Unify Military and Security Decision-Making

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemen’s Interior Minister, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, affirmed that the current stage represents a strategic opportunity to unify military and security decision-making in the country and strengthen the presence of the state across all provinces, amid the security and economic challenges facing Yemen following the formation of the new government.

Haidan explained, in an interview with the Egyptian newspaper An-Nahar, that the political leadership is working to unify military and security decisions and integrate security units while organizing various formations, which would help raise discipline levels and enhance security readiness.

He noted that a committee has been formed to oversee the integration of security and military units, as well as to regulate the financial, administrative, and operational aspects associated with the process, as part of efforts to unify the country’s security and military institutions.

The minister pointed out that Yemen is facing multiple challenges resulting from the accumulation of war, institutional division, and economic pressures, in addition to the spread of weapons, drug smuggling, and attempts by outlaw groups to destabilize the country.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is working according to a vision aimed at rebuilding the security institution on national and professional foundations and strengthening the presence of the state in the liberated provinces.

Haidan added that the ministry’s slogan, “Human First,” reflects its orientation toward placing citizens at the center of attention by simplifying procedures, improving services, enhancing the protection of rights and freedoms, and reinforcing the rule of law.

He reiterated that Yemen is going through a critical phase following the formation of the new government, considering it an opportunity to reorganize priorities, unify efforts, and rebuild state institutions. He noted that the success of the political process would be reflected in security stability and improved living conditions.

Haidan concluded by saying that a comprehensive national dialogue represents the gateway to building a modern state based on partnership, justice, and the rule of law, stressing that the security institution will remain a national institution serving all citizens, away from political polarization.
