Security Force Prevents Protest by Mothers of Abductees at Parade Square in Aden

A security force prevented a protest vigil by the mothers of abductees and the forcibly disappeared on Monday evening at Parade Square (Saha al-Aroudh) in the temporary capital, Aden.

Local sources stated that a security force approached the mothers of the abductees as they gathered in the square, seizing the photos of the abductees from their hands and tearing them up.

The sources added that the security force forcibly dispersed the gathering and blocked the protest vigil, which had been scheduled to demand information regarding the fate of those forcibly disappeared.

The Association of Mothers of Abductees revealed that approximately 60 people remain disappeared in prisons formerly under the control of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), with some families having heard nothing about their loved ones for over ten years.

The mothers of the disappeared have been conducting continuous activities and meetings with government officials since the fall of the Southern Transitional Council’s rule earlier this year.
