Prisoners and Detainees File the Focus of Meeting Between Yemeni Defense Minister and the Red Cross

Yemeni Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Taher Al-Oqili, discussed today, Saturday, in the temporary capital Aden, with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Yemen, Christine Chipoula, ways to strengthen cooperation on humanitarian issues, particularly regarding the file of prisoners and detainees.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Oqili stressed the Yemeni government’s and the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to facilitating the committee’s work, emphasizing their concern about the humanitarian conditions of detainees held in Houthi prisons, and the suffering and difficult conditions they face.
For her part, Chipoula expressed the committee’s appreciation for the government’s efforts, affirming the continuation of coordination with Yemeni authorities to strengthen humanitarian support and expand the scope of assistance, especially regarding prisoners and detainees, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
