Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
An agreement was signed today, Sunday, in Riyadh, for financial support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia amounting to 1.3 billion Saudi Riyals. The funds are designated to cover the Yemeni government’s budget deficit specifically for the payment of salaries.
The agreement was signed on the Yemeni side by Minister of Finance Marwan bin Ghanem, and on the Saudi side by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Yemen and General Supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Mohammed Al Jaber. This follows the recent announcement of the 2026 State General Budget.
Both the Yemeni Minister and the Saudi Ambassador praised the approval of the 2026 State General Budget after a hiatus of several years. They noted that this step enables the government to fulfill its duties and meet its most critical obligations—foremost among them being the regular payment of salaries and wages for the administrative and military sectors, funding basic services, and supporting social protection.
The Yemeni Finance Minister emphasized the importance of this new Saudi support during the current difficult phase, noting it will contribute to paying the salaries of state employees in central and local authorities as well as economic units. He reaffirmed that this support is an extension of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing assistance to Yemen, which has helped improve the economic and living conditions of its citizens.
For his part, Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to continuing its support for Yemen and the Yemeni people, contributing to economic stability and the achievement of peace, security, safety, and development.
