Saudi Arabia Allocates $346 Million to Support Yemeni Government Employee Salaries

Reuters quoted a Saudi official on Wednesday stating that the Kingdom will provide approximately 1.3 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to $346 million, to cover the salaries of Yemeni government employees and bridge the budget deficit.
Earlier this February, the New York Times reported that Saudi Arabia had pledged to cover the salaries of Yemeni civil and military employees, amounting to up to $1 billion annually.
Quoting its sources, the newspaper stated: “Saudi Arabia has now pledged to cover salary payments for all Yemeni government employees, both civil and military, for the foreseeable future.”
It added: “This represents a financial commitment exceeding $1 billion per year, according to two Yemeni officials briefed on the plan, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details that have not yet been made public.”
