Yemeni President Directs Urgent Aid for Victims of Tragic Abyan Accident
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, has directed the disbursement of urgent financial aid to the families of victims involved in a tragic traffic accident in the Mahfad district of Abyan Governorate, which resulted in the deaths of 11 citizens and left others injured.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency, this directive came during a telephone call with Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani. The President expressed his profound grief and offered deep condolences to the families of the victims, praying for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.
Abyan Governorate Security Department previously explained that the collision occurred in the Al-Haraj area near Al-Habaj village in the Mahfad district. The accident involved a passenger bus and a truck carrying copies of the Quran.
According to the security statement, one cause of the accident was a sharp bend in the road that narrowed the lane, forcing the bus into the opposite lane while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The statement also noted that the bus was a “Hiace” type powered by gas, which led to an immediate fire upon collision and the burning of passengers inside.
Security services, traffic specialists, and criminal investigation teams were immediately dispatched to the site. Ambulances transported the injured to local hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to Al-Jumhouria Hospital in Aden.
Abyan Security Department reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and mitigate risks, stressing the necessity for drivers to adhere to speed limits and safety regulations, especially on hazardous roads.
