Yemeni President Appoints New Commander for Special Security Forces

The Head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad al-Alimi, issued two republican decrees on Tuesday appointing new leadership to several security agencies.

Republican Decree No. (5) of 2026 stipulated in its first article the appointment of Brigadier General Abdulsalam Qaid Abdulqawi al-Jamali as Commander of the Special Security Forces, with a promotion to the rank of Major General. Al-Jamali serves as the security official and an advisor in the office of Presidential Leadership Council member Abou Zara’a al-Muharrami.

Republican Decree No. (6) of 2026 stipulated in its first article the appointment of Brigadier General Abdulsalam Abdulrab Ahmed al-Omari as Chairman of the Civil Defense Authority, with a promotion to the rank of Major General. Al-Omari previously served as the Director of Security for the Free Zone in the interim capital, Aden.

The second article of both decrees confirmed they are effective from the date of their issuance and are to be published in the Official Gazette and military bulletins.
