The National Commission of Inquiry visits “Unit 400” prison in Al-Khokha

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The National Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Human Rights Violations said it inspected four prisons and detention centers in the districts of Hays and Al‑Khokha in Al Hudaydah (western Yemen), including the notorious “Unit 400” prison run by the intelligence branch of Tariq Saleh’s forces.
In a statement on its official website, the commission said it reviewed the conditions of prisoners and detainees and assessed the extent to which detention facilities comply with legal and humanitarian standards, without providing details about the detainees or their legal status.
It explained that the field visits included Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari Prison and Unit (400) Prison in Al-Khokha district, in addition to the reserve prison affiliated with the Hays District Security Administration and the detention center of the Seventh Giants Brigade.
According to the commission, the team inspected the conditions of prisoners, arrestees, and individuals detained on charges related to participation in the war, as part of on-site verification of allegations concerning detention conditions in these facilities and their compliance with applicable legal and humanitarian standards.
Human rights organizations such as SAM for Rights and Liberties and the American Center for Justice have documented violations against civilians at Unit 400 prison, including enforced disappearances of detainees without legal procedures.
