Yemen at the Security Council: Supporting the Yemeni State is a Direct Investment in Regional and Global Security
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, emphasized that providing economic, political, and security support to the Yemeni state is a direct investment in the security and stability of Yemen, the region, and the world.
Speaking before the UN Security Council, Al-Saadi stated that the Houthi group continues to threaten peace and international navigation. He stressed that stability in Yemen cannot be achieved with a group that views war and chaos as its primary means of survival.
He pointed to recent government achievements, including unifying security and military decisions, improving basic services, ending the militarization of cities, and closing illegal prisons. However, Al-Saadi warned that these gains remain fragile as long as the smuggling of funds and weapons continues, and public institutions remain usurped by militias.
The Ambassador reaffirmed the commitment of the Yemeni government, led by Shayea al-Zindani, to partnering with the international community to bolster economic and administrative reforms, ensure the independence of the Central Bank, and protect the national currency. He also noted the significant step of empowering women in decision-making positions for the first time in years.
Furthermore, Al-Saadi stressed the importance of international support for the peace process, including prisoner exchange agreements and putting an end to Houthi violations against civilians and journalists. He concluded by stating that the sought-after peace must be just, comprehensive, and a guarantor of stability for both Yemen and the region.
