Yemeni Government Reveals Violations Committed by UAE Forces, Vows Accountability

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Yemeni government announced on Monday that UAE forces and foreign mercenaries have committed violations against citizens and civil society institutions, vowing to hold those involved accountable under national laws.

In a formal statement, the Ministry revealed that it has received a large number of complaints and reports from citizens and civil society organizations detailing serious crimes and grave human rights violations. These acts were reportedly committed by Emirati officials and officers, Yemeni personnel affiliated with the UAE, and foreign mercenaries.

The Ministry clarified that these violations included assassinations, kidnappings, enforced disappearances, detention in secret prisons, and harsh torture practices that lack basic human needs and contravene norms, laws, and the principles of ethics and religion.

The statement noted that the Ministry has commenced monitoring, documentation, and investigation processes through direct meetings with victims, their families, and witnesses, as well as visiting sites used as torture detention centers. It emphasized that these practices represent a flagrant breach of the constitution, national laws, and international obligations.

The Ministry stressed that the State of the United Arab Emirates, its officials, and the personnel involved in these crimes cannot be above the law or immune from accountability through all tools and mechanisms guaranteed by Yemeni regulations, especially since these grave crimes are not subject to a statute of limitations.

Furthermore, the Ministry highlighted reports from international organizations—including Human Rights Watch issued in late January 2026—which exposed aspects of the secret prisons and detention centers previously managed by the UAE.

The Ministry concluded by affirming its continued efforts to monitor all violations and receive complaints via hotlines and its provincial offices. It pledged to compile these files and pursue them through the competent judicial authorities to ensure justice for the victims and to prevent the perpetrators from escaping punishment.
