“Masam” Project Clears Over 2,000 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen in One Week

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s (KSrelief) “Masam” project, dedicated to clearing Yemeni lands of mines, announced that its field teams successfully removed 2,108 mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) across several Yemeni governorates during the fourth week of January 2026.

The project explained that the items cleared included 31 anti-personnel mines, 75 anti-tank mines, 2,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and 2 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as part of ongoing efforts to reduce mine risks and protect civilians.

Distribution of Findings by Governorate:

  • Aden: Teams cleared one piece of UXO in the Khor Maksar district and an additional 242 pieces of UXO within the city of Aden.
  • Al-Hudaydah: The team cleared 601 pieces of UXO in the Hays district, along with one anti-tank mine and 6 pieces of UXO in the Khokha district.
  • Hadramawt: Teams removed 20 anti-personnel mines, 23 anti-tank mines, and 1,057 pieces of UXO in the Mukalla district.
  • Hajjah: In the Midi district, 9 anti-personnel mines, 46 anti-tank mines, 58 pieces of UXO, and 2 IEDs were cleared.
  • Lahj: Teams cleared 3 anti-tank mines in the Al-Madaribah district.
  • Marib: One anti-tank mine was removed in the Raghwan district.
  • Taiz: In the Dhubab district, one anti-tank mine and 18 pieces of UXO were cleared, while 2 anti-personnel mines and 17 pieces of UXO were removed in the Saluh district.

With these figures, the number of mines cleared during the month of January has risen to 2,862. This brings the total number of items cleared since the launch of Project Masam to 534,813 mines and pieces of ordnance, which had been planted in various regions across Yemeni territory.
