The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, has directed the closure of all secret prisons and illegal detention centers in provinces under the control of the Yemeni government, and the immediate release of detainees held outside the legal framework.
According to the government-run Saba News Agency, the President tasked the security and military agencies, in coordination with the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Justice, with identifying the locations of illegal detention facilities in the provinces of Aden, Lahj, and Al-Dhale’, and formulating an urgent plan for their closure.
He emphasized ensuring the transfer of any detainees to official, legally compliant facilities or their release if no legal charges are substantiated against them.
