Haidan Reveals Plans to Integrate STC Formations Under Defense and Interior Ministries

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, stated that the security and military situation in the eastern and southern governorates is experiencing a state of stability. This follows the deployment of the “Nation’s Shield” (Dir’ al-Watan) forces and security units affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, as part of government efforts to regain control and extend state authority.

In an interview with Al Jazeera Net, Haidan explained that the government and all state officials will soon begin managing the country’s affairs from within, once the securing of the temporary capital, Aden, is finalized. He noted that this step requires some time to prepare conditions and complete the necessary security arrangements.

The Minister emphasized that security in Aden is continuously improving, noting a significant decline in what he described as the “circle of rebellion.” This shift follows the endorsement of President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi’s decisions by the governors of the provinces surrounding the capital, most notably Shabwah, Abyan, and Lahj.

Regarding the future of forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Haidan revealed an official move to:

  • Merge and redistribute these formations under the command of the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
  • Restructure the military and security system, which includes rehabilitation, training, and correcting military doctrine.
  • Enhance loyalty to the Republic as a primary objective.

Haidan pointed out that these measures are part of a broader context to restore state institutions and end military fragmentation and pluralism. The goal is to consolidate security and stability, providing a foundation for state institutions to fully resume their duties from within Yemeni territory.
