Al-Mahrami: Saudi Arabia Deals Rationally and Fairly with the Southern Cause, Seeking to Bridge Perspectives

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Abu Zara’a Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—is exerting pivotal efforts to calm the situation in Yemen’s southern provinces.
In an interview with Okaz newspaper, Al-Mahrami explained that these efforts stem from a clear Saudi commitment to prevent Yemen from sliding into a new internal conflict and preserving the remaining stability in a war-torn country.
Al-Mahrami noted that Saudi Arabia has followed a policy of military de-escalation since the beginning, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize the public interest. He emphasized that political solutions are the only way to address disputes, rather than imposing a fait accompli through force.
He further stated that Riyadh plays the role of a balanced mediator among Southern political leaders, striving to bring viewpoints closer and create conditions for a comprehensive dialogue that leads to a fair and sustainable settlement meeting everyone’s aspirations.
Al-Mahrami highlighted that the conference of Southern leaders and figures represents a significant political milestone for unifying visions and narrowing gaps between various components as well as, formulating a unified political discourse and a document of principles defining demands and priorities with expanding participation through a comprehensive national dialogue to ensure inclusivity.
He stressed that the success of the conference is tied to the parties’ commitment to its outcomes and their implementation on the ground.
Regarding the “Southern Cause,” Al-Mahrami clarified that Saudi Arabia adopts a strategic political approach that recognizes the uniqueness of the South and its aspirations. This approach supports a political path that ensures the expression of political will—free from exclusion or marginalization—within a framework that preserves regional security and prevents further fragmentation.
He added that Saudi Arabia’s interest also stems from security and regional dimensions. The Kingdom views the stability of Southern Yemen as a core element of its national security and border protection with a guarantee for the security of vital shipping lanes and a barrier against the expansion of armed groups or hostile influence near its borders.
On the security situation in Aden, Al-Mahrami confirmed it remains stable in coordination with the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia. He pointed to the commitment of civil, military, and security authorities, alongside the private sector and civil society, to ensure the capital’s stability and foster a sustainable developmental environment.
Al-Mahrami concluded by expressing optimism for the future, based on a clear national vision that addresses current challenges while focusing on long-term sustainable development and citizen empowerment. He affirmed that the strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, coupled with international support, provides the solid ground necessary for peace and prosperity.
