STC Demands Cessation of Airstrikes and Accuses Saudi Arabia of “Kidnapping” Council Delegation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Southern Transitional Council (STC) affirmed its continued adoption of serious dialogue as the primary means to address the issues of the people of the South, emphasizing its commitment to positive and responsible engagement with all political initiatives and dialogue efforts.

The Council claimed that, within this policy framework, a delegation departed the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. The delegation, led by Secretary-General Sheikh Abdulrahman Shaher al-Subaihi and several members of the Presidium, was intended to participate in a conference expected to discuss Southern issues.

Regarding internal affairs, the Council reported that Aidarous Qasim al-Zubaidi is continuing his duties in Aden, overseeing military, security, and civil institutions to ensure stability and the continued operation of state institutions in the capital.

The STC condemned airstrikes launched by Saudi forces on areas in the Dhale Governorate, which it claimed resulted in civilian casualties.

The Council expressed “extreme concern” over a total loss of communication with its delegation in Riyadh. It stated there is a lack of official information regarding their whereabouts or circumstances, demanding that Saudi authorities provide an urgent clarification, guarantee the safety of the delegation, and create suitable conditions for the resumption of dialogue.

The Council called upon regional and international actors to fulfill their responsibilities in halting these practices and protecting humanitarian and legal principles in support of the path toward peace and stability in the South.
