Hadramawt Governor Announces Success of Camp Handover Operation and Consolidation of State Authority

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Governor of Hadramawt, Chairman of the Security Committee and Commander of the Nation Shield Forces in the governorate, Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, announced the successful completion of the operation to take over military camps in Hadramawt—a move described as pivotal to enhancing security and stability and consolidating the presence of state institutions and the rule of law across the governorate.

In a statement published on the local authority’s official website, the governor said the operation was carried out with a high degree of smoothness and a responsible national spirit, and in full coordination among the various military and security units. He praised the level of discipline and readiness demonstrated by commanders and personnel, as well as the positive role played by the local community and the support of tribal leaders and dignitaries, which helped ensure the mission was completed without any obstacles or tensions.

The governor commended the support provided by the political leadership, noting that it enabled the local authority to carry out its security and military duties, safeguard national gains, and strengthen stability in Hadramawt. He also praised the efficiency and professionalism shown by the military leadership of the Nation Shield Forces in implementing the operation in accordance with the planned objectives.

Governor Al-Khanbashi expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued support for Hadramawt and its people, and for its ongoing backing of efforts to consolidate security and stability. He emphasized that this support played a significant role in the success of the camp handover operation and in enhancing the capabilities of the forces to carry out their national duties.

He noted that the success of the operation marks the beginning of a new phase characterized by security, coexistence, and stability, and strengthens public confidence in military and security institutions. He reaffirmed the continuation of efforts to solidify security foundations, extend state authority, and serve the people of Hadramawt across all districts.

It is worth noting that government forces, represented by the Nation Shield Forces and the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance, have taken control of all nine districts of Al-Mahra Governorate. A safe corridor was designated for the withdrawal of STC forces from the governorate toward the temporary capital, Aden, and the process of taking over heavy weapons has begun as part of arrangements aimed at avoiding escalation and ensuring an orderly transfer of control.

Additionally, Coast Guard forces and Nation Shield units have now deployed at Mukalla Port, the governorate’s capital, with patrols operating in the city’s streets and checkpoints being set up in several areas.

Hadramawt and Al-Mahra have recently witnessed widespread clashes between forces of the Southern Transitional Council— which seeks the secession of southern Yemen from the north— and government forces backed by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy. These clashes ended with government forces regaining control of both governorates, after the STC had imposed its control over them in early December of last year.
