Hadramawt Tribal Alliance Forces Seize Control of Second Military Region Command and Begin Securing the Coast

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Hadramawt Tribal Alliance forces have established full control over the headquarters of the Second Military Region in the city of Mukalla and have begun implementing security measures to secure the coastal areas of Hadramawt. This represents a significant field development in the governorate located in eastern Yemen.

Initial footage circulating shows the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance forces tightening their grip on the military command headquarters in Mukalla amid a wide security deployment. Local sources described these steps as aimed at consolidating security and stability in the coastal regions.

In a related development, the “Nation’s Shield” (Dir’ al-Watan) forces, affiliated with the legitimate Yemeni government, announced their control over the city of Seiyun and Seiyun International Airport in Hadramawt Governorate, following the withdrawal of Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces from the city.

The official “Yemen Today” channel reported that the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, has directed the accelerated resumption of flights through Seiyun International Airport and efforts to secure basic services in the city.

Earlier, the Governor of Hadramawt and Commander-in-Chief of the “Nation’s Shield” forces, Salem al-Khanbashi, announced the start of troop movements toward Seiyun, calling on STC elements to lay down their arms and withdraw immediately to spare lives and prevent further escalation.

These developments come weeks after the STC announced it had extended its control over the governorates of Hadramawt  and Al-Mahra, rejecting local and regional calls to withdraw its forces. This coincided with STC President Aidarous al-Zubaidi’s announcement of the start of a two-year transitional phase.

On the ground, Yemeni media reported that fighter jets from the Coalition to Support Legitimacy carried out airstrikes targeting STC positions in the Barasheed Brigade camp, west of Mukalla, as part of ongoing operations to support government forces.
