Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Arab Republic of Egypt on Wednesday welcomed the agreement reached in Muscat on the exchange of prisoners and detainees in Yemen.
In an official statement, Egypt expressed its welcome of the step, describing it as “an important humanitarian measure that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.”
Egypt characterized the agreement as “a glimmer of hope toward unifying the Yemeni ranks and formulating an inclusive national vision,” which could pave the way for a serious political process to end the crisis and achieve security and stability for the Yemeni people.
Egypt also extended its thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for its efforts in hosting and facilitating the talks, while commending the role played by the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all parties involved in the negotiations.
The agreement comes as part of ongoing humanitarian and diplomatic efforts aimed at easing the suffering in Yemen and finding a political exit to the protracted crisis.
