Marib Bids Farewell to Fallen Soldiers After Years of Their Bodies Being Held by the Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The city of Marib on Friday witnessed solemn official and popular funeral ceremonies for 14 fallen soldiers from Dhamar governorate, nearly seven years after their bodies had been held by the Houthi group before being released as part of a prisoner exchange.
Senior military officials, leaders of the popular resistance, and the families, colleagues, and comrades of the fallen attended the funeral, in a scene that reflected national unity and loyalty to the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in defense of the republic and Yemen’s national identity.
During the ceremonies, Brig. Gen. Hilal Ghalib Al-Qammas, commander of the Dhamar Axis and the 203rd Brigade, said the fallen were “heroes of the republic who confronted the Houthi militias in defense of the homeland and its freedom.”
He added that the coup militias had deliberately withheld the bodies of the martyrs for years in an attempt to erase the legacy of their heroism, stressing that their pure blood would remain a lasting testament to their struggle and great sacrifices.
Brig. Gen. Al-Qammas emphasized that “our fate is one,” pledging to continue defending the country until the overthrow of the coup militias, and affirming that the sacrifices of the martyrs would remain a guiding light for future generations in the battle for freedom and dignity.
The funeral, marked by the convergence of official and popular participation, underscored the depth of national cohesion in confronting the Houthi project, which seeks to erase Arab identity and turn Yemen into a sphere of Persian influence. Through their pure blood, the fallen embodied the highest meanings of sacrifice and selflessness.
