Saudi Arabia Executes Yemeni Convicted of Killing Coalition Commander in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced the execution of a discretionary death sentence (qisas) against Yemeni citizen Qabus Saeed Taleb Al-Kathiri, following his conviction on serious terrorism charges. These charges included joining an external terrorist organization, killing security personnel, and financing terrorism.
In an official statement, the Ministry clarified that investigations proved Al-Kathiri’s involvement in a terrorist attack that targeted a military patrol belonging to the Arab Coalition forces in the city of Shibam, Hadramawt governorate, in September 2019. The attack resulted in the death of the Coalition forces commander, Saudi Colonel Bandar bin Mazyed Al-Otaibi (also known as Abu Nawaf), along with four of his escorts, and caused other military casualties.
The Ministry of Interior stated that Coalition forces managed to apprehend the accused in March 2021, approximately a year and a half after the terrorist operation was carried out. He was subsequently referred to the competent court, which heard the case and issued the sentence of discretionary death after the charges against him were established with legal and judicial evidence.
The Ministry confirmed that the sentence became final after being upheld by the Saudi Supreme Court and following the issuance of a royal order to enforce what was decided in accordance with Sharia and statutory law.
The Ministry of Interior explained that the execution was carried out on Thursday, 27 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH, corresponding to December 18, 2025, in the Asir region.
