The European Union Naval Force (NAVFOR) ATALANTA has announced the successful rescue of a Yemeni sailing vessel that suffered a serious technical failure in the eastern waters of the Gulf of Aden.
The vessel had been en route to the island of Socotra before communication was lost with it for several days.
Operation ATALTA received an alert from the Yemeni Coast Guard and the Regional Center for Maritime Information Exchange (REMISC) in Yemen regarding its potential loss.
The European force immediately began monitoring the situation, and its aircraft conducted an intensive aerial search that located the sailing ship.
The flagship ESPS VICTORIA intervened to provide technical support and towed the vessel to a safe location, confirming the entire crew was safe and unharmed.
The operation coordinated with the ship’s captain and the Yemeni and Somali authorities to efficiently complete the rescue.
