Al-Mahrah Police Apprehend Two Individuals Involved in Cyber Extortion

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
Security agencies in Al-Mahra Governorate (eastern Yemen) announced the arrest of two individuals involved in two separate cases of cyber blackmail targeting women and girls from within the governorate and other Yemeni provinces.
A source in the Criminal Investigation Department explained that the first operation followed reports from girls who were subjected to extortion and threats of having their private photos and information leaked. The perpetrator had exploited false promises of marriage to entrap them.
Security teams were able to track digital evidence, identify the suspect, and apprehend him, finding materials in his possession that proved his involvement.
In the second operation, security agencies arrested an individual who impersonated a girl on social media platforms to lure and blackmail women. The case remains under procedural preparation before being referred to judicial authorities.
The Cybercrime Department warned of the increasing number of blackmail cases and their danger to young people, urging parents to monitor their sons and daughters. Al-Mahra Security Directorate also called on women and girls to immediately report any blackmail attempts, emphasizing its continued efforts to combat cybercrimes and enhance digital security in the governorate.
