Houthis Transfer “Al-Awdi” And “Al-Olofi” To A Secret Prison In Sana’a
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Houthi group transferred Dr. Humoud Al-Awdi and two others detained with him from its Security and Intelligence prison to a secret location north of the capital, Sana’a.
The American Center for Justice (a human rights organization) stated that the Houthis transferred Dr. Humoud Al-Awdi, a sociology professor and head of the Peace and National Reconciliation Alliance, and Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Olofi, the Alliance’s Secretary-General, from the Security and Intelligence headquarters in the Hadda area to a new detention center located in Shamlan area.
The American Center for Justice (ACJ) strongly condemned this detention, emphasizing that it represents a blatant violation of freedom of opinion and expression and “targeting voices calling for dialogue and peace.”
The American Center for Justice called for their immediate and unconditional release and for their safety to be guaranteed. It also urged the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop these repressive practices that are stifling the intellectual sphere in Yemen.
The Houthis had arrested Al-Awdi due to his participation in an intellectual meeting organized by the Dal Center for Social Studies under the title “Sunday Forum,” where the meeting discussed prisoner issues and ways to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation.
