Houthis Storm International Red Cross Headquarters In Sana’a, Detain Foreign Staff

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Armed Houthi fighters stormed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) headquarters on Baghdad Street in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, on Wednesday.

According to local sources, the breach occurred an hour before the usual morning meeting of the foreign and Yemeni team in the office, which is dedicated to discussing the latest developments regarding the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The sources reported that the assailants cut off internet service inside the building and forcibly confiscated all employees’ phones before detaining a number of foreign workers, including the head of the ICRC mission in Yemen, Christine Beller, who holds Swiss nationality, along with local staff, for investigation.

The gunmen also tampered with the office contents and confiscated some of the equipment and supplies present.
